Severe Storm Disrupts Bahía Blanca Port Operations

A powerful storm that struck Bahía Blanca on March 7th, 2025, has caused significant disruption to port operations, leaving much of the port inoperative as terminal operators assess the extent of the damages. Ing. White Port remains inaccessible, and both the port’s energy supply and communications systems have been severely impacted. As recovery efforts continue, the Coast Guard has imposed a full restriction on all inbound and outbound traffic through the access channel due to ongoing issues with traffic control equipment, which are preventing proper monitoring and safe navigation.

Port operations have been severely affected by the storm, with widespread power outages and communication failures halting activities at multiple terminals. Additionally, the access channel remains closed for the time being, as authorities continue to assess the navigational aids and determine when it will be safe for vessels to transit.

Terminal Status:

  • ADM Terminal: Currently without electrical power and unable to operate. The terminal remains inactive due to the ongoing stevedore work stoppage.
  • Pier 9 TBB: Ready to resume operations once the stevedores return to work, with no other issues reported.
  • Cargill Terminal: Fully prepared to operate once the stevedores resume their duties, awaiting the end of the work stoppage.
  • Dreyfus Terminal: Similarly, the Dreyfus Terminal is ready to start operations as soon as the stevedores return, with no further operational barriers.
  • Viterra Terminal: This terminal has been significantly affected by the storm and flooding, and is expected to remain inoperable for at least another day or two as repairs and damage assessments continue.

As of now, the port remains in a state of uncertainty, with key terminals waiting for the restoration of services and labor to resume normal operations. The full recovery of Bahía Blanca Port will depend on both the restoration of infrastructure and the resolution of labor disputes.
